PRAYER POINTS FOR THE GOLD COAST - February - March 2024

GIVE THANKS

For the GC CHURCHES DISASTER RESPONSE co-ordinated through Samaritan’s Purse, Global Care, Convoy of Hope, Love this City.

From food hampers to chainsaws, provision came in and was directed quickly and efficiently. The work is still underway with many faith-based groups and organisations leading the way.

As we know, prayer is our biggest weapon and resource, so thank you to you and all the praying people of the GC who have faithfully lifted this city up for God’s mercy and love to spread to our neighbours and friends.

     Continue to Pray for unity and synergy for the Body of Christ as we seek an increase of His Kingdom and His justice, righteousness and peace in our city.

    Pray for the sending out of the workers for the harvest – A holy boldness to be upon God’s people that we might represent Him well in this season and we might be carriers of His good news.

Points for prayer submitted by Sue Baynes flowing out of discussion around the impact from the storms into the community

  • The need for changes to laws re trees around homes, removal laws and costs. This includes an awareness of tree types that are positioned within the city with an understanding on how big they grow, root system and overall pros and cons to types and positions.
  • Homes and buildings to be storm resistant.
  • People to be more ready for emergencies (taking responsibility)
  • Looking at ways the city can have greenery but less impact around power lines.
  • Planning changes within State and Council laws allowing church buildings within the community rather than just industrial areas and schools etc. Need a focal point during crises.
  • Collaboration with churches that involves strategies and plans when there is an emergency that can be actioned immediately (partly answered in the work of the Faith-based Disaster Management Team)
  • Resources - communication systems that work when the power is out, access to cash, water and food, especially for the socially isolated.

As we reflect in the Lenten period commencing on the 14th February let us take up the challenge found in Psalm 139:23-24 (ESV)

Search me, O God, and know my heart!  Try me and know my thoughts
And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Take time in meditation and listening prayer and allow this scripture to speak to your heart afresh.

In each congregation as we consider afresh the wonder of God’s amazing grace expressed in the Crucifixion and Resurrection of our Lord.

Pray that the people of God in the city will be gripped again by:

  • The revelation that in the plan of God, the Lamb that takes away the sin of the world was slain from the foundation of the world.                                (John 1:29 and Rev 13:8)
  • The truth that: He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.  1 Peter 2:24-25
  • The model of our servant King who gave himself up for our sakes.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.  John 13:34-35

CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR THE OTHER PASTORS AND CHURCHES
IN YOUR REGION EACH WEEK

PRAYER FOR CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS

We pray for the election of a City Council leadership that will act with integrity and pursue policy that will enhance the life of the city – Take time to listen for how our Lord would have us pray into the elections.

1 Timothy 2:1-2.  First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way

PRAYER FOR LEADERS IN THE CITY

     Lord, we ask for Your wisdom and peace to settle upon all those in authority and in leadership, whether in churches or businesses, elected officials or educators. We pray for Your hand of protection over our leaders and their families and that they will be full of health, grace, and wisdom to navigate all that is in front of them.
    Pray for the exposing of unrighteousness and compromise and for the raising up of Godly servant leaders across our city.

PRAYER FOR THE CITY

  • For a mantle of protection and peace to be over the Gold Coast.
  • May family life be restored and reconciliations within family and marriages be the order of the day.
